Biography

Stephen Edwards received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1992, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994 and 1997, respectively. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science at Columbia University in New York, where he joined in 2001. Prior to his academic career, he worked at Synopsys, Inc. in Mountain View, California for three years. His research focuses on boundary hardware-software systems, aiming to push the limits of the combination of parallel systems while ensuring predictable function and timing. He is particularly interested in programming languages that allow for predictable timing and synthesizing efficient hardware-software specifications in order to build hardware dedicated to reducing power consumption in large database systems.
