Dr. Stephen Ferruolo

Biography

Stephen Ferruolo is a Professor at the University of San Diego School of Law and the Director of the Center for Corporate and Securities Law. He held the position of dean at the USD School of Law from 2011 to 2020. Ferruolo previously served as an assistant professor of history at Stanford University from 1979 to 1987 and has extensive experience in the legal profession. His professional background includes clerking for the Honorable Bruce M. Selya of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and serving as a founding partner and chair of the San Diego office of Goodwin Procter LLP from 2007 to 2011. Before that, he was a partner and co-chair of the Corporate/Venture Law Practice Group at Heller Ehrman LLP. He also held the role of vice president and general counsel for BIOCOM, the world’s largest regional life sciences association, and was recognized as a vice-chairman from 2011 to 2014. Ferruolo specializes in business and corporate law, particularly in biotech law, and is actively involved in USD’s National Transactional LawMeet® team, co-teaching classes that focus on corporate counseling and experiential advocacy. His academic credentials include a JD from Stanford University and a PhD in History from Princeton University, along with degrees from Wesleyan University and Oxford University. Ferruolo has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the field of law, including several top rankings in biotech law and recognition for his teaching excellence.
