Stephen Fletcher studied Chemistry at Mount Allison University in Canada, obtaining his PhD from the University of Alberta, where he worked with Derrick Clive in organic synthesis. He was a NSERC Canada Postdoctoral Fellow in Ben Feringa’s group at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and worked with Jonathan Clayden at the University of Manchester. He moved to Oxford to start independent research in 2009 as an EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellow and subsequently became a tutorial Fellow at Keble College, being promoted to Full Professor in 2018. His research interests include asymmetric catalysis and complex dynamic systems, generously supported by the EPSRC ERC Consolidator Grant (Autocatalysis: a bottom-up approach to understanding the origins of life). He has received awards including the 2023 Royal Society of Chemistry, Merck Sharp & Dohme Prize.
