Biography

Stephen Foster is an Emeritus Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New South Wales, with over 40 years of experience in structural engineering practice and teaching. He received his PhD from the same university in 1993. Stephen is a fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and Engineers Australia. His research focuses on structural concrete, concrete materials, and the development of new materials and technologies for concrete structures, including fibres, ultra-high-performance concrete, and low carbon construction materials. He has contributed significantly to the field with over 400 publications, including textbooks on Reinforced Concrete and Prestressed Concrete. Additionally, Stephen is involved in various standards committees and has chaired committees that developed national standards for geopolymer alkali activated binder concrete structures. Among his accolades are the Faculty of Engineering prize for teaching excellence and honorary memberships with professional organizations such as the Concrete Institute of Australia and the International Federation of Structural Concrete.
