Biography

Stephen Gould is a Professor in Computer Science at the Australian National University (ANU) and an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow. He received his BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science and a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sydney in 1994 and 1996, respectively, followed by an MS degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1998. After several years in the industry, where he co-founded Sensory Networks, later sold to Intel in 2013, he returned to Stanford University and was awarded his PhD in 2010. In November 2010, he moved back to Australia to take a faculty position at ANU. Stephen's research interests include areas such as computer vision, robotic vision, machine learning, deep learning, structured prediction, and optimization. His main research focus is on automatic semantic and dynamic geometric understanding of images and videos. He teaches courses on advanced machine learning and research methods in computer science, and he is actively involved in supervising research students.
