Stephen Haber has dedicated his career to investigating the uneven distribution of income across the globe. He is the author of five books and the editor of six papers published in journals spanning economics, history, political science, and law. His latest research project addresses a long-standing puzzle within the social sciences: why are prosperous democracies geographically clustered rather than randomly distributed across the planet? Haber, along with co-authors, employs geospatial tools and machine learning methods to provide new insights into the indirect impact of geography on development outcomes. A member of the Stanford faculty since 1987, he holds a Ph.D. in history from UCLA and has served in appointments across the departments of Political Science, History, and Economics, as well as at the Hoover Institution and the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research.
The Computer Science department emphasizes research potential. GRE General is currently optional but recommended for some tracks.
