Stephen Harridge obtained his PhD from the University of Birmingham in 1993 and undertook post-doctoral research in Scandinavia, initially at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and the Copenhagen Muscle Research Centre. Upon returning to the UK, he held academic positions at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine and in the Department of Physiology at University College London as a Wellcome Trust Research Fellow. He was appointed as Professor of Human & Applied Physiology at King’s College London in 2005 and became the head of the Centre for Human & Applied Physiological Sciences. He co-directed the Ageing Research at King’s (ARK) from 2012 and served as the Editor-in-Chief for the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports. His research is multidisciplinary, employing single-cell and whole-body exercise physiology approaches, primarily focusing on understanding human skeletal muscle function and adaptability, particularly in the context of healthy ageing and the effects of critical illness and aerospace environments.
