Biography

Stephen Hicks joined the University of Warwick in August 2019 as a Professor of Civil Engineering. He previously held senior management and leadership positions at research institutes in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, notably at the Heavy Engineering Research Association (HERA) in Auckland, New Zealand (2008-2019), and at the Steel Construction Institute (SCI) in the UK (1997-2008). Stephen's main areas of expertise include composite steel-concrete structures and steel construction. He has authored several papers and industry-standard design guides and has a long history of working on the development of both national and international standards, including UK, European, and Australasian design standards for composite steel-concrete buildings and bridges. He chairs the Technical Committee 250, Subcommittee 4 of CEN/TC 250, which is responsible for Eurocode 4. Stephen has also contributed to the development of construction products widely used in buildings across the world and has held governance positions in various engineering associations and construction product certification organizations. He is a member of the editorial board of 'Steel & Composite Structures' and serves as an associate editor for the 'Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers.'
