Biography

Stephen P. Hinshaw is a Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, and holds a secondary appointment as a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. His research focuses on developmental psychopathology, particularly in relation to Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Hinshaw has authored 439 articles and chapters, and 11 books, including his memoir 'Kind Madness' which explores his family's experience with mental illness. He has received multiple awards for his contributions to psychology, including the Distinguished Scientist Award from the Society for Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. He has served as editor for the Psychological Bulletin and is a fellow of several prestigious organizations. His efforts in reducing stigma surrounding mental illness, particularly in youth populations, are noteworthy. Hinshaw also serves as a co-director of the UCSF-UC Berkeley Schwab Dyslexia Cognitive Diversity Center.
