Biography

Professor Stephen Hodder MBE is a distinguished architect and educator, currently serving as a Professor of Architecture at the Manchester School of Architecture. He obtained a Bachelor of Architecture degree with Distinction from the University of Manchester's School of Architecture. After joining Building Design Partnership in 1981, he became a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1982. He founded Hodder Associates in 1992, which has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize for the Architecture Centenary Building at the University of Salford in 1996. Over the years, his practice has collected over forty major awards. Holding influential positions such as the RIBA President from 2013 to 2015 and Chair of the Construction Industry Council from 2019 to 2021, he actively participates as an assessor in architectural awards and competitions. In recognition of his significant contributions to architecture, he was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 1998. Hodder has been involved in academia as a visiting professor and external examiner at various universities, including the Birmingham School of Architecture and the University of Salford. He also received an honorary doctorate from Manchester Metropolitan University and an honorary fellowship from the University of Central Lancashire in 2013.
