Dr. Stephen Humphry

Biography

Steve Humphry is an expert in Educational Assessment, Measurement, and Evaluation. He has been associated with the University of Western Australia since 2006 and has held substantial Australian Research Council Linkage grants continuously from 2008 to the present. His extensive experience includes significant involvement in large-scale testing programs such as NAPLAN and WALNA. Dr. Humphry's research increasingly focuses on developing novel approaches that help classroom teachers reliably assess students in areas suitable for large-scale testing. His industry collaboration from 2011 to 2013 included leading the Central Analysis Data project for NAPLAN, where his team of psychometricians established the NAPLAN literacy and numeracy scales that serve as the basis for reporting performance levels for Australian schools and students. He has previously worked as a Psychometrician in the Western Australian Department of Education’s large-scale assessment program. Dr. Humphry has published numerous papers on theoretical and technical advancements in educational measurement, aiming to improve the comparability of test results administered across successive calendar years. He has also overseen the development of statistical software used for analyzing student results and reporting outcomes. Additionally, his research has led to the commercial application of Brightpath Assessments, which is utilized by hundreds of schools across Australia.
