Stephen Joza is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta. He holds both an MD and a PhD. Dr. Joza completed his medical degree at Queen’s University in 2016 and earned his PhD in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology from the University of Toronto in 2012. He completed a residency in adult neurology at the University of Alberta from 2016 to 2021, followed by a clinical research fellowship focused on movement disorders as an Edmond J. Safra fellow at the Montreal Neurological Institute (2021-2023). He is currently finishing a clinical fellowship in sleep neurology at the University of Toronto (2023-2024). Dr. Joza's research centers on understanding the prodromal stages of Parkinson’s disease, the clinical, physiological, and neuroimaging biomarkers associated with patients suffering from REM sleep behavior disorder, and the progression of overt diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia. His interests also include the remote monitoring of sleep disorders and he is actively supervising undergraduate students.
