Biography

Stephen Kobourov holds a professorship in Efficient Algorithms at the Technical University of Munich. He has authored more than 250 publications covering diverse research areas including the design, analysis, and implementation of efficient algorithms, algorithm engineering, information visualization, computational geometry, and graph drawing. His research has been funded by several grants from the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, and the United States Department of Agriculture. Kobourov completed his BS degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics from Dartmouth College in 1995 and obtained his PhD in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University in 2000. He began his career at the University of Arizona, where he progressed from Assistant Professor (2000-2006) to Associate Professor (2006-2012) and then to Full Professor (2012-2024). He has served as Associate Director of the Data Science Institute and has been actively involved in academic committees, including co-chairing programs for ALENEX, IEEE PacificVis, and GD. He has also held editorial positions with journals such as JGAA and CGTA IEEE TVCG.
