Dr. Stephen Lu

Biography

Professor Stephen Lu, the David Packard Chair in Manufacturing at the University of Southern California, has been a prominent figure in the field of engineering education and research. He has excelled in both academic and business realms, holding permanent endowed professorships and serving advisory roles for numerous international organizations. Lu's academic interests include design thinking, collaborative engineering, technological innovation, and education reform. He is the creator of the Product Development Engineering master's degree and established the iPodia program, which promotes global education initiatives. With over 300 technical publications to his name, Lu has contributed significantly to the field, delivering keynote speeches at both domestic and global conferences and serving on editorial boards, including as Chief Editor for the International Journal of Collaborative Engineering. He has held visiting professor positions at prominent institutions such as MIT, TU Berlin, and several universities in China and Korea. His contributions to the design and development of next-generation fighter aircraft for the U.S. military through the SAVE/JAST program further demonstrate his leadership in engineering innovation. Lu is a senior Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and has received numerous prestigious awards for his contributions to engineering education and innovation.
