Biography

Stephen Lynch is a lecturer in Pure Mathematics at King's College London. He studied at the University of Queensland and the Free University of Berlin before obtaining a PhD at the University of Tuebingen. Following his doctoral studies, he joined Imperial College as a Chapman Fellow. Lynch’s research focuses on geometric analysis, specifically utilizing nonlinear elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations (PDE) to address questions in geometry. He has made significant contributions to the analysis of singularities in geometric flows such as mean curvature flow and the Ricci flow for hypersurfaces. Additionally, he works on minimal submanifolds and the connections between semilinear PDEs arising in phase transition theory, including models like Allen-Cahn and Ginzburg-Landau. His research interests also encompass nonlinear PDEs, Riemannian geometry, geometric flows, and phase-transition models.
