Dr. Stephen Morris

Biography

Stephen Morris is a Professor in the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford and also serves as the Associate Head of the Department for Teaching. He is a Tutorial Fellow at Jesus College and the Academic Director for the Professional Development Programme in Technology and Artificial Intelligence. Morris leads the Soft Matter Photonics Group, focusing on the design and development of new opto-electronic devices based on soft materials including liquid crystals and polymers. His research encompasses the interface between engineering, materials science, and physics, featuring experimental investigations and theoretical studies. His contributions include approximately 140 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals such as Nature Photonics, Nature Communications, and Advanced Materials. Morris is also associated with several professional societies and committees, including serving as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Optical Materials and as an advisor for the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. He has received multiple awards, including the Royal Society University Research Fellowship and the Ben Sturgeon Prize from the Society for Information Displays. Stephen holds a PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge and has previously been an Official Fellow at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge.
