Professor Pitti, raised in Sacramento, California, received his PhD from Stanford University in 1998. He is the author of 'Devil in Silicon Valley: Race, Mexican Americans, and Northern California' (2003) and has published articles on Chicano history historiography. He is currently working on two book projects: 'World of César Chávez' (forthcoming, Yale University Press) and 'Leaving California: Race in the Golden State' (in process). He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Latino Studies, Ethnic Studies, Western History, and 20th-century immigration, civil rights, and related subjects. Currently, he serves as the Director of Undergraduate Studies of Yale's American Studies Program. He also directs the Latina/o History Project, which explores the histories of ethnic Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Dominican, Cuban, and Latino communities in the United States, linking divisions, diversity, cultures, and politics.
