Biography

Stephen Przybylinski is an urban political geographer broadly interested in the ways that liberal democracies enable injustices and how political systems mediate responses to these injustices. Before arriving at Michigan State University, he held a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University as a researcher for the JustNorth project, a Horizon 2020 initiative examining the ethical implications of Arctic development. Stephen earned his Ph.D. in geography from Syracuse University, an MA in geography from Portland State University, and a BA in urban studies and geography from the University of Minnesota. His research interests include political urban geographies, property, housing, homelessness, liberalism, and theories of justice. He is particularly focused on how property mediates citizenship and political subjectivity within liberalism, especially concerning processes that affect property-insecure and homeless individuals in a historically racialized context.
