Biography

Professor Stephen Roberts holds a degree in Physics and a DPhil in machine learning. He has been at the University of Oxford since 1999 and currently serves as a Professorial Fellow at Somerville College. He co-leads the Machine Learning Research Group and is the founding director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Autonomous, Intelligent Machines and Systems (AIMS). His research focuses on machine learning approaches to data analysis, with particular interests in developing machine learning theory and solving problems related to time series analysis and decision theory. His current work applies Bayesian statistics and graphical models to a diverse range of problem domains, including astronomy, mathematical biology, finance, and sensor networks. Stephen is recognized as a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He has also been awarded the Man Group Chair in Machine Learning, underscoring his contributions to the field and commitment to advancing research in machine learning.
