Biography

Dr. Stephen Sansom graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Dundee in 2001. He studied Developmental Biology at the University of Cambridge as a member of the Wellcome Trust's 4-year PhD programme. After completing his PhD, Dr. Sansom undertook post-doctoral studies at the Gurdon Institute under Dr. Rick Livesey, focusing on genomic approaches to generate insights into pattern specification and cell fate choices in the mammalian neocortex. Recognizing the potential of computational biology and next-generation sequencing, he joined Professor Chris Ponting's Computational Genomics Analysis Training program at the University of Oxford in 2011 as an MRC Career Development Fellow. He has developed a strong interest in immunology through collaborative research with Professor Georg Hollander, resulting in the publication of significant findings in single-cell genomics and thymic epithelial cells. Since joining the Kennedy Institute in 2014, Dr. Sansom has led the Computational Genomics team, focusing on understanding the mechanisms of central tolerance and collaborating closely with experimental groups to unlock the potential of genomics in understanding inflammatory disorders.
