Biography

Stephen Sonnenberg is a Professor at Dell Medical School, University of Texas at Austin, specializing in the intersection of medical humanities and healthcare education. His extensive training includes an M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and advanced residency in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine & Public Health. Sonnenberg has a notable history as a clinical psychoanalyst, having trained at the Baltimore-District Columbia Institute of Psychoanalysis. He has been instrumental in establishing innovative programs within the medical humanities and ethics, notably the Bridging Disciplines Program titled 'Patients, Practitioners, Cultures of Care'. In addition to his teaching and scholarly pursuits, he plays an active role in supervisory capacities, guiding undergraduate research and participation in clinical strategy development for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
