Biography

Canadian flautist Stephen Tam is a distinguished soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player known for his performances across a diverse repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary music. He has performed as a concerto soloist with notable ensembles including the Canadian Sinfonietta and Ontario Philharmonic, and has collaborated with prestigious orchestras such as the Calgary Philharmonic and the Banff Festival Orchestra. Tam's solo performances have been broadcast nationally on CBC Radio and Radio Television Hong Kong, highlighting his prominence in the field. As a committed chamber musician, he has performed at esteemed venues including the White House and Hong Kong Government House, and he regularly participates in music festivals such as the Toronto Summer Music Festival and Ottawa Chamberfest. An advocate for contemporary music, Tam is a frequent guest with ensembles dedicated to new music. He has recorded works by Canadian composer Robert Lemay. An established educator, Tam is on the flute faculty at both the University of Toronto and Western University. He also conducts a private studio and serves on adjudication panels for local, provincial, and national music competitions. Tam's educational background includes a Master of Music and Professional Studies Certificate from the Manhattan School of Music, as well as a Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto.
