Biography

Stephen Taylor is an accomplished solo and chamber musician as well as a sought-after oboist in the country. He currently holds the Mrs. John D. Rockefeller III Solo Oboe Chair at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and serves as co-principal oboist of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Since joining the Yale School of Music in 2005, Taylor has been teaching studio graduate-level oboe students and coaching chamber music ensembles. During the summer, he performs and teaches at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and Yale Summer School of Music. Taylor's performance experience includes over 300 recordings, including works with renowned artists like Kathleen Battle and Itzhak Perlman, and he received a Grammy Award nomination for his collaborations. He studied at the Juilliard School under Lois Wann and Robert Bloom. Possessing a passion for music and an obsession with buoyancy, Taylor enjoys spending time with old wooden boats in Maine. He is actively involved in performances with various ensembles and festivals, showcasing his expertise and artistry in oboe performance.
