Dr. Stephen Vanner received his undergraduate degree in Life Sciences along with an MD and MSc degree from Queen's University. He completed his training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at Queen's, along with post-doctoral research training focused on enteric neurophysiology at the Vollum Institute in Portland, Oregon. Since returning to Queen's University in 1991, he has served as attending staff in Gastroenterology at Kingston General and Hotel Dieu Hospitals where he provides comprehensive care for patients with gastrointestinal disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He performs a full range of endoscopic procedures, including Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). His subspecialty expertise includes gastrointestinal motility disorders affecting the lower gastrointestinal tract, small intestine, colon, and anorectum, and he is the director of the Anorectal Motility Laboratory. He has established a translational research program that investigates the underlying mechanisms of pain signaling and motility in the gastrointestinal tract.
