Dr. Stephen White

Biography

Stephen White is a Professor in the Department of Classics at the University of Texas at Austin, where he specializes in Ancient Philosophy and Greek Literature. He obtained his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests predominantly focus on ancient Greek poetry, including classical lyric and the works of poets such as Aeschylus, as well as the philosophical writings of Aristotle and topics related to early Greek astronomy. He teaches ancient philosophy and Greek at various levels, and is also involved in courses on Roman literature and culture. His ongoing projects extend to the epistemology of Parmenides and the cultural significance of the fifth-century poet Praxilla. White has taught at prestigious institutions such as St. John's College and universities in Illinois and Nebraska, where he educated students on languages of classical antiquity and logical analysis. His academic contributions are recognized through his participation in various programs, including the Ancient Philosophy Program at UT Austin.
