Dr. Stephen Wigmore

Biography

Professor Stephen J Wigmore is the Regius Chair of Clinical Surgery and Head of the Department of Clinical Surgery at the University of Edinburgh. He specializes in organ transplantation and liver, pancreas, and biliary cancer surgery. His principal research focus lies in cell and molecular biology, particularly organ pre-conditioning and stress protein expression. Professor Wigmore has been involved in significant research regarding Kupffer cells, innate immunity, and endotoxin handling in the context of liver surgery and transplantation. He has played a vital role in medical education, focusing on distance learning.
