Biography

Steve has worked at the University of Edinburgh since 2012 and has been involved in the MSc Primary Dental Care program, developing teaching materials and moving tutoring online for nine years. In February 2023, he was appointed Programme Director for the MSc Restorative Dentistry. He currently holds a position as a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Edinburgh Dental Institute, overseeing DClinDent students and Endodontics trainees in Restorative Dentistry. Steve worked as a general dental practitioner in private practice in Aberdeen for 27 years, accepting referrals for restorative and surgical cases. He taught restorative dentistry at the undergraduate level for ten years at the University of Dundee and for eight years at the Institute of Dentistry at the University of Aberdeen, where he was responsible for delivering the Application of Dental Materials and Biomaterials course. He authored the undergraduate textbook 'A Clinical Guide to Applied Dental Materials', published in December 2012. Steve is heavily involved in postgraduate dental education and has lectured across the UK, publishing nearly forty original papers in peer-reviewed journals. He is also a reviewer for several dental journals and a key influencer for various dental material equipment manufacturers.
