Professor Dr. Steve Brunton

Biography

Steve Brunton is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington. He is also a Data Science Fellow at the eScience Institute and holds the position of Boeing Professor of AI and Data-Driven Engineering. His research focuses on the integration of machine learning techniques and data-driven discovery to control complex dynamical systems. Notably, his work explores low-rank coherent patterns within high-dimensional data to enhance sparse measurements and optimize sensor placement and control. His applications range across fluid dynamics, including closed-loop turbulence control, bio-locomotion, and renewable energy, as well as areas such as neuroscience, medical data analysis, and optical systems.
