Dr. Steve Carr

Biography

Professor Steve Carr is a faculty member at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, where he teaches and performs research in the field of Biology. He completed his BSc in Biology at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 1975, followed by a CPhil and PhD in Genetics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1978 and 1983, respectively. His research interests focus on Population Genetics, particularly within the context of molecular genome evolution in vertebrate animals. He leads a research lab dedicated to understanding patterns and processes in population genomics, with a particular emphasis on phylogeographic genomics as it pertains to local fisheries and wildlife populations. Professor Carr has published numerous studies examining the genetic structure of various species, including those within the Gadidae family, and has made significant contributions to the field of ecological evolutionary mitogenomics. He is actively involved in supervising undergraduate and graduate students in their research endeavors.
