Biography

Dr. Steve Gismondi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Guelph, where he has been teaching since 2000. He earned his PhD from the University of Guelph in 1996. Gismondi has held teaching positions at both the University of Guelph and Wilfrid Laurier University, ensuring a wealth of experience in academia. His research interests are interdisciplinary, focusing on computational complexity theory and its applications, particularly in the realm of heuristic solution techniques for NP-complete and coNP-complete decision problems. Gismondi has also explored properties of the Birkhoff polytope and algorithms for determining perfect matchings in bipartite graphs, and he has begun to apply these techniques to the graph isomorphism decision problem. Gismondi's engagement extends beyond research; he is also known for his involvement in the Ontario Combinatorics Workshop and has received several awards, such as the Special Merit Award from the University of Guelph Faculty Association in 2010 and has been an Associate Fellow of the Institute of Combinatorics and Applications from 2007 to 2018.
