Dr. Steve Kay

Biography

Steve Kay is a University Professor and Provost Professor specializing in Neurology, Biomedical Engineering, and Quantitative Computational Biology at the University of Southern California (USC). He is also the Director of Convergent Bioscience at USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on the composition and architecture of circadian networks in plants and animals, exploring how these networks provide adaptive advantages to organisms through pervasive integration of regulatory modules across multiple cell types. The laboratory employs high-throughput genomic and chemical biology pipelines to identify components of these networks and applies mechanistic approaches to understand their functions and interactions in both plant and animal systems. Over the years, Steve has held significant academic positions and has garnered various prestigious awards, including the ASPB Award Martin Gibbs Medal and recognition as a Highly Cited Researcher by ISI. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences USA, reflecting his contributions to the field of life sciences. Steve received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Bristol, UK, and has held various positions, including a Richard C. Atkinson Chair in Biological Sciences at UCSD.
