Biography

Steve New is an Associate Professor of Operations Management at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. His main areas of expertise include supply chain management and process improvement. A leading authority on supply chain management, Steve is particularly interested in the development of a rigorous understanding of how individuals and organizations construct and interpret the systems in which they operate. His research takes a multifaceted approach, analyzing the ethical and environmental issues reflected in supply chains, as well as the impact of the internet on Business-to-Business commerce. He has written extensively on the concept of provenance in supply chains, as highlighted in his article 'The Transparent Supply Chain' published in Harvard Business Review. Steve is also at the forefront of research concerning the Toyota Production System (TPS) and its applications in various sectors, including healthcare, where he is collaborating with the Nuffield Department of Surgery at the University of Oxford to improve patient care quality through TPS-style interventions. His career began as an engineer at Rolls Royce plc, and he holds a doctorate from Manchester Business School, focusing on decision support in manufacturing. Steve serves on several editorial boards and is a Fellow at Hertford College, University of Oxford.
