Biography

Steve R. Nutt joined the faculty at the University of Southern California in 1994 and currently holds the M.C. Gill Chair in Composite Materials. He founded the M.C. Gill Composites Center in 1996 and has served as its Director since then. His affiliation with the Viterbi School of Engineering includes a tenure as Senior Associate Dean for Research from 2005 to 2006 and Chair of the Mork Family Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science from 2011 to 2014. Before his current role, he was a research professor at the HREM Facility at Arizona State University and a member of the engineering faculty at Brown University from 1986 to 1993. Dr. Nutt's research focuses on the processing science of fiber-reinforced composites and the mechanisms governing the production of composite laminates. His work includes innovative process diagnostics and the design of instrumented test beds. The applications of his research span aerospace, wind energy, and automotive sectors, emphasizing liquid molding processes and the investigation of high-temperature phenomena in composites.
