Biography

Dr. Nutt joined the faculty at USC in 1994 as a Professor of Materials Science. He founded the M.C. Gill Composites Center in 1996 and has served as its Director to the present day. He was also the Senior Associate Dean for Research at the Viterbi School of Engineering from 2005 to 2006 and chaired the Mork Family Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science from 2011 to 2014. He currently serves as the co-Director of CEMMA, the Center for Electron Microscopy and MicroAnalysis, since 1994. Dr. Nutt's research group focuses on the processing science of fiber-reinforced composites, including experimental determination of mechanisms governing production and performance of composite laminates. His research covers aerospace, wind energy, and automotive applications, emphasizing prepregs and liquid molding processes. He has received a range of awards, including the USC Mellon Mentoring Award in 2014 and the SAMPE Conference Paper Award in 2011.
