Biography

Steven R. Alexander is a Professor Emeritus in Pediatrics (Nephrology) at Stanford University. With over 25 years of experience in clinical investigation, his research focuses on the epidemiology of End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and clinical trials related to acute and chronic kidney disease in children. He has played an instrumental role in the pediatric nephrology community, serving as a representative for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on the National CAPD Registry Advisory Committee since 1986 and co-founding the North American Pediatric Renal Trials Collaborative Studies (NAPRTCS) in 1987. Under his leadership, NAPRTCS has developed the largest and longest-running multi-center study group in pediatric nephrology, enrolling 17,000 patients at over 100 centers across four countries. Dr. Alexander is deeply invested in mentoring junior faculty and fellows, having co-founded the Stanford Intensive Course in Clinical Research Study Design and Performance in 2006. He has also been pivotal in re-engineering the clinical translational research enterprise at Stanford, currently serving as the Medical Director of Operations, Training, and Compliance for the Stanford Clinical Translational Science Award. His clinical focus includes Nephrology, Pediatric Nephrology, Dialysis, Kidney Transplantation, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapies, and Hypertension.
