Biography

Steven Biegalski is the Program Chair for the Nuclear and Radiological Engineering and Medical Physics program at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1996, a Master of Engineering from the University of Florida in 1992, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland in 1991. Dr. Biegalski has a distinguished background, having served as Director of the Radionuclide Operations Center, where he spearheaded efforts to develop and implement radionuclide effluent monitoring technologies, supporting both national capabilities and international treaties. He previously worked as a faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin for 15 years, where he was the Reactor Director for the university’s TRIGA reactor for over a decade. Throughout his career, he has advised 25 Ph.D. students and holds Professional Engineering licenses in Texas and Virginia. His current research focuses on nuclear analytical methods, radioisotope production, nuclear forensics, and nuclear non-proliferation.
