Biography

Steven Bittle is a Full Professor in the Department of Criminology at the University of Ottawa. His research broadly addresses the topic of crimes of the powerful, with a specific focus on corporate crime, including corporate criminal liability and corporate manslaughter, as well as corporate corruption and work-related suicide. He is currently engaged in SSHRC-funded projects that examine issues of corporate corruption in Canada and the implications of work-related suicide, and is working on a book-length manuscript regarding corporate manslaughter law reform. Steven has served as an associate editor for the Journal of White Collar Corporate Crime and was the Coordinator for the Criminology Department’s PhD program from 2018 to 2023. Before joining the University of Ottawa in 2010, he held research management positions in various Federal Government agencies, including the Department of Justice Canada and the Law Commission of Canada. Steven earned his PhD in Sociology from Queen's University and holds both a BA and MA in Criminology from Simon Fraser University. He is actively supervising graduate students in the fields related to his research interests and is open to PhD applications that align with these areas.
