Biography

Steven D. Chang, MD, is a Professor of Neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine and the inaugural holder of the Robert C. Jeannette Powell Professorship in Neurosciences. His clinical work and research are centered on the treatment of brain tumors and cerebrovascular diseases. Dr. Chang joined Stanford’s Department of Neurosurgery in 2000, was named a full professor in 2008, and became an expert in microsurgery and radiosurgery treatments for brain, spine, and skull base tumors. He co-directs the Surgical Neuro-Oncology Program and has been instrumental in advancing the Stanford Cyberknife Radiosurgery Program. His areas of specialization include arteriovenous malformations and cavernous malformations in the brain and spine, as well as the surgical treatment of intracranial aneurysms. An author or co-author of over 300 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, Dr. Chang leads research initiatives within the Stanford Neurogenetics Oncology Program and the Stanford Neuromolecular Innovations Program, focusing on genetic analysis and clinical outcomes in radiosurgery for brain and spine tumors.
