Biography

Dr. Steven Cummer is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University, where he has been a faculty member since 1999. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, obtained in 1997. Prior to his position at Duke, he was a National Research Council postdoctoral research associate at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. His research interests focus on theoretical and experimental electromagnetic problems related to geophysical remote sensing and engineered electromagnetic materials. Cummer has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the National Science Foundation CAREER award and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2001. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and has contributed extensively to the field through numerous publications examining the intersections of lightning phenomena, electromagnetic communications, and acoustic metamaterials.
