Biography

Steven Deller is a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He joined the faculty in 1993 after spending four years at the University of Maine. His expertise lies in community economic development, focusing on smaller and rural communities. Deller has received multiple accolades, including the Walter Isard Award for Distinguished Scholarly Achievement from the North American Regional Science Council and the inaugural Rural Renewal Research Prize. He has been a Fellow of three major agricultural and applied economics associations. Deller is an experienced editor for academic journals and a frequent contributor to media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times.
