Biography

Steven N. Evans is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He is a recipient of several prestigious awards including the Presidential Young Investigator award, Sloan Fellow award, and Miller Fellow award. He has been honored with the Rollo Davidson Prize and the G. de B. Robinson Prize from the Canadian Mathematical Society, as well as the IMS Medallion. Evans is a fellow of both the American Mathematical Society and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics. His research expertise and interests include large random combinatorial structures, random matrices, superprocesses and measure-valued processes, probability algebraic structures—particularly local fields, and applications of stochastic processes in fields such as biodemography, mathematical finance, population genetics, phylogenetics, and historical linguistics.
