Biography

Steven Forsey began leveraging emerging technologies in chemical education at the outset of his career. In the early 1980s, he started creating lab manuals and uploading instructional videos to the internet, becoming a pioneer in flipping lecture courses. His experience led him to become an early adopter of in-class response systems, facilitating innovative teaching methods and collaborating with a start-up company named Top Hat. His contributions in utilizing mobile and immediate feedback technologies in the classroom culminated in the creation of Top Hat's online textbook in 2016, designed to engage readers and provide a fully interactive learning experience. To assess the effectiveness of educational resources, Dr. Forsey conducts class surveys to inform evidence-based changes and regularly involves senior students in survey initiatives as part of their 4th-year research projects. His commitment to teaching and student success continues to inform his innovative approaches in the field of medicinal chemistry and organic chemistry education.
