Biography

Steven joined the Media Communication program at the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 2015. He began teaching in 1989 and has held senior positions at the University of Western Sydney from 1995 to 2005 and at the University of Sydney from 2005 to 2015. He has served as a visiting scholar at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School in 1998, the School of Cinema-Arts at the University of Southern California in 2002, and the School of Journalism at Fudan University, Shanghai, in October-November 2012. Steven graduated from Curtin University in Western Australia in 1988, studied Honours at Murdoch University, and received his PhD in Communication Studies from Murdoch University in 1994. His research interests include media ethics, screenwriting, communication theory, and the history of media and communication studies. Steven has been involved in various roles such as the Discipline Chair of Media Communication within the School of Social Sciences and has been a Graduate Research Coordinator. He emphasizes inquiries into postgraduate supervision, focusing on key research and contributes to external research initiatives tied to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
