Biography

Steven W. McLaughlin serves as the Provost Emeritus and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology. As the chief academic officer, he provides leadership over academic-related units, colleges, library, and professional education. He joined the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech in September 1996. From 2017 to 2020, he served as Dean of the College of Engineering and held the Southern Company Chair. Between 2012 and 2017, he was the Steve W. Chaddick School Chair of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Additionally, he was Vice Provost for International Initiatives and held the Steven Denning Chair in Global Engagement from 2007 to 2012. Dr. McLaughlin co-founded CREATE-X in 2014, a campus-wide initiative aimed at instilling entrepreneurial confidence in students and assisting them in launching companies, which has successfully launched 72 student-led companies. He has received numerous accolades, including the Chevalier dans l'Ordre National du Mérite from the French Republic in 2011 and the National Science Foundation Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).
