Biography

Steven Montner, MD, serves as the Interim Chair of the Department of Radiology at the University of Chicago. He joined the faculty in 1988 and is currently a Professor overseeing the daily operations of the department, focusing on physician staffing and acting as a liaison with various hospital groups. Montner has previously held the position of president of the medical staff organization. He specializes in pulmonary imaging and has significant expertise in analyzing and interpreting chest radiographs and CT scans related to thoracic diseases, including interstitial lung disease and conditions affecting large and small airways. His research work has involved studying how imaging contributes to the characterization of interstitial lung disease and pulmonary fibrosis, as well as occupational lung disease. Montner has authored or co-authored 45 peer-reviewed articles published in scientific journals and has given numerous presentations at international venues. Besides his clinical and research commitments, he is actively involved with the Radiological Society of North America and the Society of Thoracic Imaging, serving on committees focused on radiology education and physician well-being.
