Pianist, Steven Philcox, is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, where he leads the Collaborative Piano Program. He is recognized as one of Canada's finest collaborators, frequently partnering with the country's vocal elite and performing in leading concert halls across North America. From 1999 to 2010, Mr. Philcox served as répétiteur, assistant conductor, and orchestral continuo player for the Canadian Opera Company, contributing to over 35 productions. Increasingly acknowledged for his teaching, Mr. Philcox has given masterclasses across Canada and has been regularly invited to mentor young artists in prestigious summer programs such as Opera Avalon, Toronto Summer Music, and the Vancouver International Song Institute (VISI). He has held teaching positions at the Banff Centre’s Twentieth Century Opera Song Festival, Chautauqua Summer Institute, and the Center for Operatic Studies in Italy (COSI). Recently, he has co-directed the Canadian Art Song Project (CASP) with tenor Lawrence Wiliford, which aims to foster the development of new song through annual commissions and performances while advocating for the existing wealth of song literature. A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Mr. Philcox also holds a Master of Music Degree in Vocal Accompanying from the Manhattan School of Music. His collaborative work includes engagements at Carnegie Hall (Weill Hall), Alice Tully Hall, and other leading venues in Canada and North America.
