Biography

Steven Rayan is a professor at the University of Saskatchewan, specializing in algebraic geometry, differential geometry, and symplectic geometry, particularly the relationships between mathematical physics and representation theory. He is currently the Vice-Dean (Interim) for Research, Scholarly, and Artistic Work in the College of Arts and Science and the Director of the Centre for Quantum Topology Applications (quanTA). His research interests include properties of Higgs bundles and Hitchin systems, using these theories to probe geometric structures of manifolds and varieties. Furthermore, he focuses on the applications of techniques in pure mathematics, especially algebraic geometry and topology, to the study and discovery of quantum condensed matter, including topological insulators and novel materials.
