Professor Rose joined Imperial College London in December 2006 and has held the position of head of the Plasma Physics Group since October 2012. His career has focused on plasma physics, with particular emphasis on plasmas produced using high-power lasers. He spent time at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory’s Central Laser Facility, where he became the Associate Director of Physics. In 2008, he was appointed Director of the Institute of Shock Physics at Imperial, a role he held until 2011. Rose was also co-Director of the Centre for Inertial Fusion Studies in 2009 and served as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences from October 2011 to December 2014. From 2015 to 2020, he was a Professorial Research Fellow, and in 2020 he became a Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford. In 2016, he was appointed chair of the Institute Research Schools, a charitable trust dedicated to promoting authentic research in secondary schools. In October 2023, he was named Emeritus Chair of Plasma Physics.
