Dr. Steven Wang

Biography

Steven Xiaogang Wang is a Full Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at York University. With over 30 years of experience analyzing large and complex data sets, he has distinguished himself in the fields of machine learning and statistical methods application in healthcare. His expertise spans two decades of developing data mining and machine learning algorithms, contributing to significant advancements in statistics, optimization, and physiological research. His publication profile includes numerous papers in top-tier statistics, optimization, and physiology journals, as well as presentations at leading conferences in artificial intelligence. Steven obtained his Postdoctoral degree in Data Mining from the Pacific Institute of Mathematical Sciences in 2002, a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of British Columbia in 2001, and an M.Sc. in Applied Statistics from the University of California at Riverside in 1996. He also holds a B.Sc. in Computational Mathematics from Beijing University of Technology, earned in 1991. His research interests prominently feature Machine Learning, Data Mining, high-dimensional optimization, and their applications in medicine and disease modeling.
