Biography

Steven Weijs is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia. His research interests focus on water resources management and hydrology, emphasizing the dynamics of uncertainty and information in context. One of the larger questions he addresses is how to optimally channel information flows and observations in complex water systems. His work aims to enhance knowledge of the underlying physics to enable informed decision-making in water resource management. Weijs obtained a Ph.D. in 2011 and a Master of Science in 2004 in Water Resources Management and Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. He completed a two-year AXA Research Fund postdoctoral fellowship and joined the Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Hydrology lab at EPFL, Switzerland, before working in the Cryospheric Science group for another two years. He has been a faculty member at UBC's Department of Civil Engineering since July 2015 and teaches in the Master of Engineering Leadership in Integrated Water Management program.
